The probability of diabetes complications
Studies have shown that 10 years after onset diabetes, 30% ~ 40% of patients with at least a complication occurs.
The high incidence of diabetic complications, resulting in high mortality rate and high morbidity.
The prevalence of diabetic neuropathy in the course of 5 years, 10
years, respectively after 20 years could reach 30% ~ 40%, 60% ~ 70% and
90%.
Retinopathy in the course of the disease for 10 years and 15 years
later, 40% ~ 50% and 70% to 80% of patients with concurrent disease.
About 10% of patients after 15 years at the onset will develop into a
severe visual impairment, and 2% of patients will be completely blind.
Micro-albuminuria is a sign of diabetic nephropathy. The
occurrence rate of microalbuminuria in the course of 10 years and 20
years later, could reach 10% to 30% and 40%, and 20 years later, 5% ~
10% of patients deteriorated into end-stage renal disease. Adolescent
onset of diabetic patients 50 years of age, 40% developing severe
kidney failure and requires dialysis and renal transplantation, or else
face death only.
In addition, the diabetic patients the risk of cardiovascular
disease than the general population increased by 2 ~ 4 times, and
earlier age of onset. As the blood vessels and nerves in patients with
diabetes, disease, often leads to foot ulcers, thereby amputation.
From the Coroner's point of view, the cause of death in patients
with diabetes are mainly various complications. Of these, ischemic
heart disease is the main reason for death in patients with diabetes,
accounting for death in patients with diabetes, 60% ~ 80%. Cerebral
vascular disease caused by about 10% of deaths, the mortality rate two
times that of non-diabetic patients. Diabetic nephropathy usually
accounts for 10% of the total deaths to 30%, the smaller the age of
onset, diabetes, kidney disease, the higher the proportion of deaths.
