Japan discovered a new method of treatment of diabetes

Medical University researchers Cihhuei will be a new experiment shows
that by the pancreas to the diabetic mice implanted in a specific gene
can be successfully so that those with lower blood sugar function in
substantially the proliferation of pancreatic beta cells. This
discovery is conducive to development of new methods for treating
diabetes.
First, let make a virus carrying the gene in advance of cell
division cycle, and then the virus directly injected into mice
suffering from diabetes, the pancreas.
Before injection, mice per liter of blood glucose values of about
4 grams, and 16 weeks after injection, blood glucose values dropped to
about 2 grams per liter of blood, close to normal. Analysis showed that
these mice, pancreatic beta cell number has increased to 2.5 times
before injection.
In addition, life expectancy and health status of mice with normal
or less the same kind. The researchers also confirmed that the virus
used in experiments only when the implanted gene, while the implanted
genes only in pancreatic beta cells play a role, so this method induced
a small risk of cancer.
Pancreatic beta cell insulin secretion and thus have the function
of lowering blood glucose, diabetes, pancreatic beta cells in vivo in
patients with reduced or declining role, leading to continued high
blood sugar levels. Therefore, to make pancreatic beta cells is a
fundamental method of treating diabetes. Researchers plan future
targets of large animals similar experiment, and strive to make this
therapy eventually developed into clinical application.
